USU Eastern announces commencement honors
Utah State University-College of Eastern Utah will celebrate its 75th commencement exercises Saturday at the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.
In addition to the Commencement speaker, Gail Miller, the ceremony will also include remarks from Co-Valedictorians Justin Stout (Price) and Lance Deeter (Helper). Elcio Dutra (Salt Lake City) will also be recognized as the Salutatorian.
Justin Stout is the son of Alan and Joan Stout. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his time at USU Eastern. Justin is an accounting major and has chosen to continue his education at Brigham Young University. Eventually, Justin would like to own and operate his own business.
Lance Deeter is the son of Barry and Linda Deeter. Lance followed up his perfect 4.0 GPA at Carbon High with a similar result at USU Eastern. Lance is an exercise physiology major. His plan is to transfer to the University of Utah to finish his bachelor's degree after which he will apply to Medical School. Lance would like to eventually become a sports medicine physician.
Elcio Dutra was born in Sao Paulo Brazil, but raised in Salt Lake City. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA Elcio has been involved in the SUN Student Involvement Center and number of student clubs. He is a business major and eventually would like to get a master's degree in business management.
This year's Val Halamandaris Caring Award will be awarded to Austin Ashcraft (Salt Lake City). The Caring Award is awarded to the student who has most exhibited the spirit of service at USU Eastern. Austin has served as the President of the SUN Center and has been a project leader. Austin will continue at USU Eastern and pursue his bachelor's degree in education.
