With good spring runoff ahead, Carbon County Recreation is anticipating two good months of river running this year. Last Thursday - the only good weather day between snow storms - the outdoor recreation coordinator Bo Christensen guided a small group in kayaks and one canoe on an excursion down the San Rafael River. The paddlers put in at Fuller Bottom and spend a day in the sunshine, surrounded by the imposing cliffs of the Swell. The San Rafael is a good river run for small boat novices because it lacks the more challenging rapids and drops of larger streams. The next scheduled trip down the San Rafael is set for June 4. Before then, Carbon Rec has set an excursion down the Price River from Woodside to the Green River for May 10. Trips down the Green are set for May 7 and 21, June 4, July 2 and 16, and August 6. All the trips down all the rivers feature the stunning geology of Castle Country.
