Wellington sewer work under way
Allied Construction workers prepare to begin a major pipe-bursting job Monday morning along U.S. Highway 6 in Wellington. According to those on scene, the Allied crew will be replacing up to 400 feet of sewer conduit at a time by essentially threading large sections of welded new pipe through the old sewer works. The infrastructure replacement project is slated to continue over the next two months, causing continued lane diversions in Wellington city. The new plastic pipe will replace the deteriorated main line that broke down over the Thanksgiving weekend. The city received an emergency grant and a zero-interest loan from the Community Impact Board to finance the project, and recently issued revenue bonds to cover the loan portion. In addition to this repair work, Wellington will also be conducting a video survey of its entire sewer system to assess its condition and determine if other sections of pipe need to be repaired or replaced.
