The Manti-LaSal Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) has awarded $820,816 in projects to be completed by various organizations on the Manti-La Sal National Forest. The committee estimates it will have another $186,000 available for additional projects.

According to RAC Chairman Glen Zumwalt, "The advisory committee has decided to schedule another round of funding and would invite individuals and groups to submit proposals."

Under the Secure Rural Schools Act, Title II, Sanpete, San Juan, Emery, Mesa and Montrose counties contributed a portion of their appropriation to the Forest for such projects. The RAC, whose members are residents of the counties, recommends projects for funding to the Forest Supervisor, who makes the final decision.

County and state agencies, non-governmental agencies, the Forest Service and individuals are eligible to apply. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. May 20, 2011, and can be submitted by email, online or hard copy.

Applications and additional information about submission can be obtained from Rosann Fillmore at (435)-636-3525, rdfillmore@fs.fed.us, or on the RAC website at https://fsplaces.fs.fed.us/fsfiles/unit/wo/secure_rural_schools.nsf/RAC/Manti-La+Sal?OpenDocument.

Projects must benefit Forest wildlife or resources; maintain roads and infrastructure or control noxious weeds.
