Sgt. Tory Christianson (on left of lectern) and Deputy Mike Hreinson receive a standing ovation from a crowd of admirers at Wednesday's county commission meeting. Human resources director Rose Barnes had just presented them with Employee of the Month honors for coming under gunfire in February as they approached a motorhome in search of a suspect in a domestic violence incident. Hreinson was struck in his holster and key ring by a shotgun slug and wounded by shrapnel from the disintegrated fragments. Barnes, in presenting the awards, said to the two award winners and their colleagues, "Every single day, every single one of you put your life on the line for every one of us." The two also received Medals of Valor from Sheriff James Cordova and Capt. Guy Adams. The medals are the highest awards a deputy can receive from the department.
