Wreckage from a 105,000 pound electric generator lies where it came to rest after falling off the flatbed of a semi Tuesday afternoon near Ford Falls on US 6 north of Helper. Tie down chains snapped as the truck rounded a curve, causing the generator to slide off the truck. A corner of the generator gouged a deep gash in the road surface, then plowed through the roadside soil as it either flipped or rolled to a stop. There were no injuries in the incident. As for luck, the curvature of the road at this point caused the load to fly off to the side of the road. Had the chains broken a little earlier or later, the generator could have slid into the oncoming traffic lane.
