'Season of Hope" comes to USU-CEU
Once again this summer, patrons from all over Carbon County will come together to battle the devastation caused by the Big C, while honoring those who have fought valiantly against the disease. Themed "Season of Hope,"the 2011 Relay for Life will help survivors and their loved ones, celebrate, remember and fight back in the name of finding a cure for cancer.
"There are so many things in life that will catch your eye but only a few will catch your heart...pursue those. These words sum up the emotions I felt the first time I experienced the relay,"said 2011 Event Chairperson Terri Lott within recent correspondence to the Sun Advocate. "This incredible event is the American Cancer Society"s worldwide signature event and it is happening right here in Carbon County."
This year"s event will take place on June 17-18 at Utah State University"s College of Eastern Utah Track, adjacent to the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center. This year"s committee urges everyone interested in the event to put together a team of between 10-15 participants, asking each one to raise at least $100 through fundraiser events and donations.
For those who have not yet participated, the Relay for Life is described by the committee as a fun-filled, overnight event which raises funds toward finding a cure while paying tribute to those effected by the disease. According to the committee, this 18-hour event brings the community together with inspired stories, food, entertainment and much more.
"It"s a place where teams can set-up their camps in the infield and compete for prizes,"explained Lott. "Who knows, your team may win the award for the best decorated camp site."
Those interested in the event can join by attending upcoming meetings at the Carbon School District Administration Offices located at 255 W. 400 N., across from Mont Harmon Junior High in Price. The committee will meet on April 5 at 6 p.m., May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at June 14 at 6:30 p.m.
