Dinos pitcher Bigelow throws no hitter against Spartans
Last Friday in the face of cold and wintry weather Carbon came out on top of 18-15 extra inning win over Uintah on Friday afternoon.
On Tuesday, the Dinos put up another 18 runs, this time they only took five innings to do it as they shut out Emery 18-0 with a no-hit pitching performance from Gage Bigelow.
Friday afternoon the Dinos had to fit a game in between snow storms with the Uintah Utes. Jaren McCourt took the mound for Carbon and each team piled up six runs before the third inning was over. The Dinos added six more in the next two innings, but the Utes found a way back in as they put up four in the bottom half of the fifth.
Carbon added a run in the sixth to hold a 13-10 margin when the Utes came up to bat in the seventh and tied it up. The Dinos took the lead by a run in the eight and the ninth only to see Uintah match them. Finally in the 10th Carbon added three that the Utes could not match and the game was over. Hayden Basinger was on the mound in the final two innings and got the win.
All totaled the teams put up a combined 33 runs on 36 hits while committing 10 errors between them. Seth Tryon blasted a home run over the fence. Basinger helped his cause with a double and a triple. Dylan Vogrinec and Clint Finkbiner also hit a two bagger.
"It wasn't the best played game I've ever watched,"chuckled coach Troy Moynier as he talked about the win, "the only thing good was that we got the win and we got the game in. We went through a lot of pitchers to get it. It was cold and we played like it was cold. We should have put them away, but we let them back in. We did continue to hit and that was good to see."
Moynier watched another good offensive demonstration again as Carbon took on the Spartans in Castle Dale on Tuesday. But it was Gage Bigelow's performance on the mound that really stole the show. Not only did he pitch a no hitter, but came within a few outs from a perfect game. He walked the second batter in the fifth for the only blemish.
The Dinos pounded out four hits in the first and four in the second. They added another eight in the fourth before capping it off with a pair in the fifth. Bigelow, Basinger, Colin Moynier and Vogrinec each had a double. Vogrinic also had a triple while McCourt blasted a homer.
Now the Dinos will have a rematch with Uintah at home on Friday with the game beginning at 3 p.m.
