Rantings and Ravings

Sun Advocate reporter

These past few weeks I have had so many weighty issues to deal with. Last week I even had a couple of people from a religious group knock on my door and point out that the bible predicted that earth quakes portend the end of the world.

We entered into yet another war. I have no clue if it was the right thing to do. I am keeping a close watch on the developing unrest in that part of the world.

The radiation leaking from the crippled reactors in Japan are an ongoing concern. The less I hear about that the more worried I feel. I do not feel the need to go out and secure iodine tablets or build a safe room, but I do admit to a feeling of unease as I listen to things.

Listening to the Utah legislature blame the media for the public out cry over HB477 just plain made me angry. It was good to hear some admit it was really a problem of their own making.

It is worrisome to watch some state legislative bodies stripping collective bargaining from unions representing public workers. Collective bargaining by many unions earned benefits and better labor conditions for almost all workers in the United States. Yes there is some excesses that make it into some of these contracts, but the answer is not to eliminate one of the best tools to fight against the erosion of wages and safe working conditions.

So what am I going to do about these issues and crisis that slap me in the face every time I turn on my TV?

Nothing today.

Today I am taking a break and enjoying my life as it is right now. My biggest complaint today is that I do not like the new Chicago Cubs blue uniforms.

Oh and they are losing too.

I am uninviting myself from the royal wedding of Prince Williams and Kate Middleton because they are serving a multi-layered fruitcake for their wedding cake. Really? Fruitcake?

I will walk my big black dog and worry about avoiding the mud or not. I am actually just happy it is nice enough to get outside.

I will try and remember to buy coffee so I don't have to wake up and treat the world to my non-caffinated alter ego. It wouldn't be a pretty sight.

I will make time today for my family and clean my house and do some laundry. Mainly I will just live my life today.

In a world of constant disasters and news coverage, we need to make sure we don't get so wrapped up to what is happening every where else that we forget to focus on what is most important to us.

Have you turned your TV off today and just enjoyed five minutes of silence? That is next on my list. Tomorrow will be another day and new things to worry about, just not today.
