Lady Dino softball winding through tough preseason play
Weighing the invitations from two different tournaments last weekend in St. George, Carbon Softball Coach Tony Pinedo opted for the one with the best teams oppose.
As result the Lady Dinos didn't pile up a lot of wins, but they played some really good ball and came home a better team.
The road swing started off Thursday with a non-tournament 5-1win against Pineview. Then on Friday The Dinos faced Manti to open tournament action and lost a 9-8 battle.
Then they had to take on Bountiful and came away with a 6-0 defeat and they took on Pineview and lost 4-3. Finishing things up on Saturday they ended up with another one run loss to Jordan, going down 7-6. An 8-6 win over West made the bus ride home easier to take.
Specific stats were unavailable for the road swing games, but Coach Pinedo praised the hitting of his team, especially Megan Tubbs who blasted a 3-run homer in the game against Manti. He also complimented the pitching effort of Kenzie Cave who pitched in every game of the road trip.
"We played well and learned some things," Pinedo stated about the results."We were close in every game, even the one with Bountiful. We just need to pick up our mental game and figure out how to finish the games. I truly believe we could have won all of those one run games if we had just done a few little things differently."
Weather permitting, the team will face off with Manti on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. on the Carbon softball field.
