Karen Bedont, a teacher of grade 10 through 12 at the Lighthouse High School, was nominated for an outstanding teacher award in the 2011 Apples For Teachers. Nina Shrewsbury, a senior at the Lighthouse, wrote the winning nomination. She wrote, "Mrs. Karen Bedont has helped me with some of the most impossible subjects in my mind and I have accomplished them." At the end of the school year, one of the monthly winners will be chosen as "Teacher of the Year."
