So you go undefeated in your region and get to face a fourth seed team in a play-in game. Piece of cake, right? Not when your fourth seed team is as good as Richfield and that is exactly what the Lady Dinos had in store for them on Saturday night.

The Richfield Wildcats gave it all they had, but Carbon showed why they are a number one seed and ultimately came out on top 50-39. This earns the Dinos a seat at the tournament while Richfield ends their season.

Carbon burst out with a lot of confidence and went on a small scoring run before the Wildcats fought back. It would be touch and go through out the entire first half of play. The Dinos led by three at the end of one, and then by a mere point at the half.

Miranda Averett had to sit great stretches due to foul trouble, but the Lady Dinos adjusted. By the end of the third quarter they had finally opened a bit of breathing room, up 34-27 as they headed to the final stretch.

Richfield made one more little run before the Dino defense put the hammer down and the offense finished it off.

Tia Pappas finished with 18 points, five steals and seven rebounds. Averett was able to score 10 points despite the time sitting on the bench. Sara Potts and Kylee Lessar were a force on the boards with 16 between them. Mariah Pollock rounded things out with nine points.

Coach Cami Carlson was happy to get through the game. "We knew that Richfield was going to be tough. I am glad because this gets us better prepared for what is coming in the tournament than an easier fourth seed would have."

She went on to say, "Richfield's two post players are their key to winning. They are good at pinning and getting open and we shut them down. Our girls did what they needed to and did not let themselves get pulled out of position. It was another great team effort and they all kept their cool when things weren't going our way."

It will be Cedar who will give the Lady Dinos their next test. Carbon will head up the the Huntsman Center at the University of Utah on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
