Wellington will keep 'reverse nepotism' policy at FD

After a two-week review of its volunteer fire department acceptance policy, Wellington City has decided to keep the policy in place for safety reasons.

The issue, raised by Pete Yakovich in January, was the the department rules were too restrictive on accepting relatives to serve in the department. No more than two members of a family may participate.

Yakovich said this causes qualified people to refrain from applying.

The city council saw it more an issue of safety, and, while thanking Yakovich for making his concerns known, decided to let the policy stand.
