Steve Lasslo, a second grade teacher at Pinnacle Canyon Academy, won this month's award in the Apples for Teachers program. Danielle Birrell, whose son attends Lasslo's class, wrote the winning nominating letter complimenting him on his outstanding teaching. Some of the attributes include that he keeps constant track of his students, he goes above and beyond what is required of him as a teacher to insure the kids in his class are not only learning, but having fun as well. Mr Lasslo also calls once a month to the parents, either to keep them informed of homework not being turned in or just to say " job well done." He even took time out of his home life to go to her son's Junior Jazz game to cheer him on. KUSA and the participating sponsors will be honoring local teachers from Carbon and Carbon County in their second annual Apples for Teachers 2011. Many teachers go up and beyond the call of educating, and play an important part in forming the character and ethics of the children they are teaching. Every month KUSA will choose one outstanding teacher and treat them to lunch at Farlaino's Cafe where they will be presented with the nomination letter and plaque. At the end of the school year, one of the monthly winners will be chosen as "Teacher of the Year" and will be awarded with a special luncheon and a new Apple laptop. Nominations can be sent to apples4teachers2011@gmail.com.
