A former captain with the Emery County Sheriff's Office has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

David F. Owens, 74, of Ferron, was charged on Feb. 9 in the Seventh District Court in Castle Dale on four counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, each of which is a first degree felony.

Owens was charged following an investigation by the Utah State Bureau of Investigations which found that the alleged crimes occurred in Emery County between 1997 and 2007.

Owens is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Feb. 15 at 1:30 p.m. in the Seventh District Court in Castle Dale.
