PCA Girls post first win of region play
By TERRY WILLIS Sun Advocate sports reporter
Friday night was a good night for the Lady Panthers as PCA posted their first win with a 39-27 victory over Navajo Mountain. Saturday was not as friendly with the team going down 62-40 to Monument Valley.
On Friday night the Lady Panthers hit the Lady Jaguars with every thing they had. It remained a low scoring game, but PCA made sure that Navajo Mountain did not get many second chance points. On the other end of the court it was some good offensive rebounds that helped Pinnacle out score their opponents.
Haley Spigarelli came up big with a double-double on Friday with 11 points and 10 boards. Monique Hullings just missed one with nine points and 10 rebounds. Kimberly Scott contributed 10 points and Chantell Denny and Rylie Birch pulled in 10 boards in the winning effort. Hullings also had five steals.
On Saturday it was a second quarter slump that put the Lady Panthers in a hole against Monument Valley they couldn't climb out of. A good fourth quarter effort did take the sting out of things a bit. But Coach Heidi Kay admitted her team missed on the little things that make a difference in the end.
"We didn't take care of the ball tonight. We took less shots than in our winning game. We had a great fourth quarter effort, but like so many of our games, our second quarter just killed us,"none Kay said right after Saturday's game.
Hullings again just missed a double-double with 13 points and eight boards and three steals. Spigarelli put up 11 points and Scott added 10. Ashia Andrews led the way with nine boards.
The team will take on Monticello on the road on Feb. 10.
