This evening East Carbon residents were without adequate water for nearly three hours as city maintenance crews fought a main break in the municipality's culinary water system. According to East Carbon employee Burt Krauss, the break was caused by aging infrastructure which simply gave way to decades worth of pressure and winter cold.

The known leak at 163 Grassy Trail became a full blown break at approximately 5 p.m. Monday night causing city water pressure to drop off instantly. Local maintenance crews immediately jumped on the situation, blocking off the area for traffic safety and using a portable public announcement system to inform residents of the problem.

By approximately 8 p.m. East Carbon crews has dug through six feet of asphalt and frozen earth, located the leak and bypassed the problem. Due to falling temperatures, the department elected to restore water to the city's water pressure via bypass and repair the broken main on Tuesday morning.

Residents experiencing additional water issues are urged to call the local dispatch office for assistance at 637-0890.
