Wasps sting Dinos
It's tough when you are struggling to have to face the top 3A team in the state. But that is exactly what Carbon had to do on Tuesday night against Wasatch. The outcome was fairly predictable as Carbon went down to defeat 72-48.
For the Dinos in the first half, it was like the rim was made of flubber. Everything they shot bounced right back out. It wasn't even like they were forced to take high percentage shots, the wide open layup would not penetrate the hoop. Several times they got two or three second chance efforts off of rebounds and still couldn't get the ball to drop. In the first quarter Wasatch had everything fall in for points and they had amassed an 11 point lead. By the half Carbon was trailing the Wasps 39-21.
The Dinos had a better second half of play and were only out scored by six points all half. The Wasps had Clint Finkbiner's number and kept him well contained all night. Gage Bigelow was able to step up and lead the way with 14 points. He was the only Dino with more than 10. Nine Dinos were able to find a way to contribute and help spread scoring.
Assistant Coach Jeff Cisneros remarked, "You don't get to be ranked that highly without a reason. They (Wasatch) are a great team. I thought our boys played hard all night. We had a lot of shots that just wouldn't go in. Some nights are like that."
He went on to add, "We just need to stay looking ahead and we have two really big games ahead of us against Union and ALA."
Carbon will face Union at home this Friday night with tipoff at 7 p.m. They will also host ALA on Tuesday night with game time at 5:15 p.m.
