FALLBROOK, Calif., - William (Willie) Leroy Dixon was born April 10, 1937 to Amon and Tressie Dixon. He died peacefully on Jan. 21, 2011, with his family at his bedside in Fallbrook, Calif. He married Carole Rhodes on July 2, 1960 and they had two daughters.
Willie was educated in Carbon County and was active in the county's athletic programs. Willie graduated from Carbon High School in 1955. He graduated from Carbon College with an Associate in Science degree in 1957. He attended Utah State University and graduated with Bachelor of Science in Education in 1959. Willie earned his Masters of Science degree from the University of Southern California on an educational grant in 1969. He taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District from 1960 until his retirement in 1992. In addition to teaching, he coached several athletic teams. He was active in the Kiwanis organization and with the Catholic Charities.
Willie was an outstanding athlete. He was co-captain of the Carbon High School Dinos football team in 1954-55 and was named to the all conference team. He then attended Carbon College where he was once again co-captain (1956-57) and all conference. Willie played for Utah State University in 1957-59. Willie was active in Carbon County's Golden Gloves boxing program. He was inducted into the College of Eastern Utah Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
Willie is survived by his wife of over 50 years Carole, his two daughters Kelly Falco and Erin Land, his three grandchildren Kendra, Jeremy and Trevor, his brother Charles, His sister Margaret (Ken) Manzanares and his dog Toby. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bob.
