Tuesday night the Carbon Dinos traveled over to Roosevelt to take on the Union Cougars for the first region matchup of the season. They made a great fourth quarter effort, but fell short in a 59-50 loss. But fortunes were much different on Friday as they ended with a 77-48 victory over ALA.

On Tuesday a slow start left the Dinos down by eight at the end of the first quarter. A better second period pulled them within five. But the struggle to score was very evident in the third as Union doubled them up as Carbon had turnovers leading to Cougar fast break scoring.

Finally, something clicked and Carbon began to put together a good run at Union, but despite outscoring the Cougars 16-11 in the final period, they fell short.

Gage Bigelow led the way in the loss with 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Colin Moynier pounded the boards and grabbed 15 and added seven points. Clay Finkbiner added nine points.

"We struggled though out the first part of the game," said coach Ted Bianco about the game. "We came out in the third and committed quite a few turnovers and didn't get back on defense. We did finally put it together in the fourth and made a good run on it. I am proud of the effort we got within four with a 1:50 left to play and put themselves in a position to win"

Knowing that they had let they first region game get away from them, the team hit the hardwood against ALA with a determination to not let it happen again. Another slow start saw ALA walk away with a one point advantage at the end of the first. But that would not hold up as the Dinos hit the locker room up by 35-30. Carbon had a ten point advantage at the end of the third and then cruised in the final period out scoring the Eagles 30-11.

Clint Finkbiner took top honors with 22 points including four threes. Moynier finished with 13.

Bianco felt even better about Friday's game, "We played much better and created baskets by forcing turnovers and good defense. We played team defense and created easy shots. If we do that Tuesday we will have a great shot at beating Park City."

Carbon will head to Park City on Tuesday for another region matchup. They will play a home game against Ben Lomond on Saturday night at 5 p.m. This is a make up game from earlier in the preseason.
