PRICE - On Jan. 12, 2011, our loving husband, father and friend, James O. (Pete) Peterson passed away at the age of 70 with family members at his side.

Pete was born in Columbia on Aug. 21, 1940 to Wreda Oveson and Blondie Peterson. He graduated Carbon High School as a member of the Class '58. Shortly after, Pete spent four years in the Air Force. After serving his country, he attended Utah State University and earned his degree in the late 60s.

Pete was a talented baseball player and he played Triple AAA baseball in Mount Shasta, Calif. Pete loved to watch college football. Every fall he would meet up with buddies to watch a U of U game. If there was a bowl game on, Pete was watching it.

Pete made his career in the mining industry for 27 years. Twenty-five of those were spent at Kaiser Steel in Carbon County. Pete worked diligently as a trainer for the mine rescue team the Smoke Eaters and felt his greatest accomplishment was the team's success.

His partner in life, love and marriage for 41 plus years was Betty. Together they raised four beautiful children. He considered his children the apple of his eye. He took great pride in watching his children grow and succeed in life. He was also a much-loved grandpa who had much to give to his grandchildren. He instilled the importance of a well-kept good appearance. He stressed the importance of a tucked shirt, belted pants and polished shoes. When the kids arrived, they would receive a dollar for a tucked shirt and an extra bonus for a shine on their shoe. His tactics worked as they always walked through grandpa's door with tucked shirttails.

Pete had a great passion for music and photography. Years ago, he had a darkroom in his house but when the digital age of photography came, Pete followed the trend. He had great skill behind the lens and on the computer to make great photos.

Pete was also a lifetime member of the Price Elks Lodge # 1550 in Price.

Pete will be dearly missed by his wife, Betty; daughter Natalie (Larry) Cedeno; sons Fitzgerald (Francie) Petersen, Stacy Peterson and James "Scooter" (Chanta) Peterson; grandchildren Erin, Debon, Justice, Michael James, Brittney, Christopher, Savannah, Dominique and Eli; he is survived by sister Linda (Claire) Davis. Pete was preceded in death by parents Wreda and Blondie Peterson, in laws Florencio and Rebecca Sanchez, brothers Clive Peterson and Lyle Peterson.

Memorial service, Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, 2 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of "Pete" at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
