Injured Merlin finds help
This male Merlin came to Second Chance Wildlife from Spring Glen recently. A Merlin is a small falcon that winters south of Canada, so the local area only sees them during this time of year. They are fast, powerful fliers and prey on other birds. Their diets are mainly comprised of starlings.
Unfortunately, he will be unreleasable due to his injuries, However, the center has found placement for him in an educational capacity in New Mexico. His injuries are just about healed, so it won't be long before he will be heading that way for a new life. He should make the adjustment well since he is a young bird.
Second Chance Wildlife is funded entirely by donations and since all injured, orphaned and sick wildlife are brought to wildlife rehabilitators across the country, donations determine how many and what can be done for these wild creatures. No funding is provided by the state or USFWS.
