Golden Eagles extend winning streak to six games
After a long Christmas break, the Golden Eagles ventured back out on the court and quickly added two more wins to their record. On Monday night EU played host to Yavapai College and took them out 90-60. Then on Tuesday night the Arizona Western became the next victim as EU beat them 61-59.
The Yavapai Roughriders (6-7) were no contest for the Eagles as they cruised to a 30 point win. EU has been waiting patiently for 6'9" inside player Bryant Crowder to become eligible for the rest of season. He now is ready and his contribution to the team was immediate as he lead the team in scoring with 25 points, 10/13 shooting from the field and 5/6 free throws, 4 rebounds in 16 minutes of play. Jonathan Mills scored 10 points in limited time as both Mills and Bryant were in foul trouble for most of the game.
In the second of what will be four games this week for EU, Arizona Western gave the team a much closer battle. It was a playoff type atmosphere in 'The House' as EU played the spoiler behind Brady Hurst's 15 points and Bryant Crowder's 10.
It truly went down to the wire when AW's Daichi Taniguchi's possible game-tying layup to force overtime went in after final buzzer sounded and was ruled no basket. EU won their sixth straight game and snapped AW's seven-game winning streak.
Conference action will resume this weekend with a home stand for EU. They will take on Snow College on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. after the women play and then at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday they will face off with Salt Lake Community College.
