Rantings and Ravings
So here is is 2011 already. Just like every year, we can look back and see both good and bad while we look ahead and hope the next year is better.
Personally, 2010 was a pretty good year. I set some fitness goals and kept them. I was able to take a dream trip down the Grand Canyon on a raft.
I had many adventures and spent time with family and friends through out the year.I learned of additions to our family and for the most part we all stayed healthy.
On the sadder side of my life, I have three friends battling cancer right now. Two of my neighbors were in serious accidents. I had to say farewell to a few friends this year as well.
Over all, for the big picture, 2010 brought the Gulf Coast oil spill and devastating weather throughout the country. We all saw pictures of the Minneapolis Metro Dome collapsing under the weight of all the snow.
Families are continuing to struggle with job loss and foreclosure. Unemployment benefits have been extended to record lengths and still people are running out of benefits. Banks are continuing to pay out record bonuses.
We saw some of the strangest elections in a while. We watched some big names in politics go down in both to the voters choices and to scandals.
It was another year of deaths of well known public people. And more bodies of U.S. soldiers are coming home in coffins even as we try to pull out of our wars.
Facebook came of age this year and it and twitter played a part in politics that no one would have guessed just five years ago. Phones are now mini computers and people are connected to each other and everything 24/7.
Many states are close to bankruptcy and have had to cut services and issue IOUs. And the banks are paying record bonuses.
The Cubs did not win the world series, but neither did the Yankees. It was the San Francisco Giants that did it. New Orleans was victorious in the Super Bowl and the LA Lakers grabbed the NBA title.
Health Care reform was passed, but not everyone is happy about it. Don't Ask, Don't Tell was repealed for the military.
We are pushing for laws to ban texting while driving and car manufacturers are continuing manufacturers are continuing to add new gadgets to distract us while driving. An in dash entertainment center is a bigger selling point than a car's MPG right now.
All in all 2010 had as many ups and downs as any year in the past. So will 2011. All we can do is prepare ourselves for the ride ahead. It will be another doozie.
Happy New Year and have a good one.
