It was a subdued varsity team that took to the hardwood on Wednesday night.

The JV game had been stopped with a little over two minutes to play because a Carbon player went down with a medical issue. She was taken out and left by ambulance. But after a slow start, the team began to play Dino ball and thoroughly defeated Lehi 60-43 to run their winning streak to 6-0 for the season.

The Lady Pioneers came out physical against the distracted Dinos and quickly went up 8-0. But after a quick time out Carbon began to climb back in the game and had pulled to within two at the end of the first period.

The Lady Dinos found their rhythm in the second quarter and went into the locker room ahead by seven. Coach Cami Carlson talked to her squad and got them refocused and the team exploded in the third quarter to run amok over Lehi and built the lead to 21. The final quarter had both teams trading points and Carlson emptied her bench to give each of them a little court time.

It was a balanced team effort that put the Pioneers on the ropes. Tia Pappas finished the night with 12 points, six steals and five assists. Miranda Averett was the force on the boards with eight rebounds and eight points. Kristen Jewkes and Mariah Pollock added nine points each.

"It was hard for the girls at the beginning of the game." remarked Carlson, "They were all concerned about what had happened. It was hard and I think at the beginning of the game they just overplayed, tried to hard and were out of position. Their (Lehi) post players were able to score easily. But we dealt with that at the half in the locker room and the girls came out and played their game."

The Dinos now will face their toughest challenges of the season in Richfield this weekend. They will have to face Delta and Richfield.

Delta is ranked fifth in 3A, just behind the Lady Dinos.
