Even though Carbon and Emery are in different regions, the rivaly remains. Game one of the two match-ups this season went to the Dinos last Wednesday night in a 64-55 win. However Carbon didn't fair as well on Saturday against Bear River, losing 64-47.

In the Wednesday game it was Emery who came out hot and scored the first seven points before the Dinos finally hit a free throw.

"We didn't panic," said Head Coach Ted Bianco. "That allowed us to stay in the game and we began to challenge their shooters. We began to hit our shots and set some good screens. We played good defense that really helped us win this game."

By the half the Dinos had taken the lead and began to pull away. But the Spartans were determined and cut a 15 point lead down to three as the fourth quarter was drawing to a close. Carbon hit a crucial shot and then hit their free throws down the stretch to solidify the victory.

Clay Finkbiner was on fire with 25 points including five treys. Clint Finkbiner also was an offensive force with 21 and three from downtown. Colin Moynier pulled in 10 rebounds while scoring six.

Bear River was a lot like the Fruita team that Carbon had lost to in the previous weekend. Bianco felt like the team played much better against Bear River, but the outcome was eventually the same. It was a close first quarter before the Bears widened the lead and went into the locker room up by nine. But for the Dinos, it was a flat third quarter with some crucial turnovers spread in for even more trouble. They headed into the final period down by 19. The Dinos picked it up in the final quarter and didn't lose any more ground.

"Bear River was a big, fast and strong team. We started good, but then we just couldn't get our shots to drop and had a little bit of bad shot selection. We made a few critical turnovers in the third. We made a run in the fourth, but missed some opportunities," said Bianco about the loss.

Clint Finkbiner was out due to illness. Gage Bigelow led the Dino offense with 15. Tanner Gagnon stepped up and added 12. Clay Finkbiner added three treys. Moynier was the leading Dino on the boards with 11 with Julia Tamllos pulling in six.

The team will now head to Manti on Wednesday and then come home for a Saturday game against Ben Lomand at 5 p.m.
