EU women's basketball feast on pair of wins, men split games in Wyoming
With both Eastern Utah men's and women's basketball teams preparing for their conference season, each team spent the Thanksgiving weekend on the road. For the Lady Eagles it was a great success as they hit a two game winning streak with a 74-60 victory over Northwest Wyoming and an 85-60 win over Eastern Arizona. The men's team was not as successful as they took an 89-79 win over Central Wyoming and then lost 80-72 to Western Wyoming on Saturday.
The EU women were in Salt Lake for a tournament and it was the Brazilian players that were the key to the wins. Priscila Santos put on a show as she hit 24 points on Friday and followed that up with another 20 on Saturday. Bruna Deichmann put up 13 points on Friday and 20 on Saturday. Daiana Ferreria put the icing on the victories with 11 both days. The Lady Eagles sit at 3-6 on the season.
The Eagles took the floor up in Rock Springs Wyo., and began their weekend by putting Central Wyoming away. Jonathan Mills had a great night with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Maxim Zakarov added 14 points and Cameron Evans finished with 11.
On Saturday Mills put on another scoring show with 34 points and 13 rebounds for his seventh double-double in nine games. Brady Hurst also had a good night with 23 points and 10 boards, but it wasn't enough to overcome Western Wyoming and EU took their second loss of the season. They are now at 9-2 for the year.
The men will be in Casper, Wyo. on Saturday, but will be at home on Wednesday, Dec. 8 for a home game at 7:30 at the B-DAC. The women will be at home this Saturday for a 3:00 game. It is the first home game of the season for the Lady Eagles.
