Carbon High Dino swimmers dominate Emery Spartans

On Monday Nov. 22 the Carbon Swim team competed against the Emery Spartans. The Dinos were dominant in the meet with the Carbon girls scoring 113 and Emery 45. It was pretty much the same for the boys with Carbon 106 and Emery 58.

"For this meet I decided to try swimmers in events they would not normal swim just to see what they could do I was pleasantly surprised with their swims," remarked Coach Kamra Davis.

The Carbon girls 200 medley relay team of Aysha Black, Lizethe Pendleton, Tati Larsen, and Brittney Willson captured firs by more than seven seconds. In the boys 200 medley relay; Lance Riche, Thory VanDyke, Dakota Powell, and Brandon Gibson also captured first.

In the 200 free, Willson dominated and won with a gap of 18 seconds. Megan Barnett finished second and Ashley Noyes fourth. The boy's 200 free saw Carbon sweep the competition with Riche in first, Dylan Jarrett in second and Austin Baker in third.

In the girls 200 IM it was Black in first, Pendleton second and Larsen in third. For the boys IM Powell took a close second, only being touched out by two tenths of a second. Joel Garff grabbed third and Austin Martinez was fourth.

In the 50 free, Paula Gibson touched first, Jill Malone was third, Kim Callaway in fifth, Erica Mantz in sixth, seventh was Sam Jones, eighth was Samantha Bradley, tenth was Haley Shiner and Samm Jeppson finished fifteenth. In the boys 50 free it was Gibson in first, Vaughn Garff in second, Austin Pullan in third, Jade Powell in fifth, Landon Barr in sixth, Luke Olsen in eighth, and Brett Cook finished in eighth.

For the girls 100 butterfly Larsen captured first and Megan Barnett was third. The boys 100 butterfly was a tight race. All four swimmers finished within four seconds of each other. VanDyke touched first and Zach Prettyman ended third.

In the girls 100 free Malone grabbed first, Paula Gibson finished third, Callaway in fourth, Sam Jones took fifth. For the boy's 100 free Garff swam to a second place, Gibson in third, Powell in fourth, Olsen in sixth, Cook took seventh. In the longest event, the girls 500 free, Willson was first and Noyes was second. For the boys Pullan ended second, Riche in third and Barr was fourth.

In the 200 free relay the Carbon girls Pendleton, Larsen, Barnett, and Gibson took first. Callaway, Jeppson, Shiner, Sam Jones took second. The boys team of Powell, Vaughn Garff, Riche, and Gibson also finished first. In second it was Dylan Jarrett, Zach Prettyman, Jade Powell, and Joel Garff.

In the girls 100 back, Black swam away with a first, leading the competition by nine seconds, Damantha Bradley was third. For the boys 100 back Dakota Powell was second and Austin Baker third.

In the girls 100 breast Pendleton out touched her competition by one tenth of a second, Jeppson ended in fifth. Boys 100 breast VanDyke was second, Prettyman in third and Dylan Jarrett in fourth.

In the final event of the night the Carbon girls Willson, Gibson, Barnett, and Black dominated their competition by finishing 45 seconds in front of anyone else. In third place is the team of Noyes, Callaway, Bradley, and Mantz. In the boys 400 free relay Joel Garff, Vaughn Garff, Jarrett, and Pullan took second. In third was the team of Barr, Baker, Cook and Powell.

Davis summed it up, "Our swimmers are doing very well this season. Every meet we have several best times and all our relays are looking good for state this year. Our next meet will be in Cedar City on Dec 3 and 4. We had to change our home meet from Dec.1 to Dec. 8 because the pool is closed."
