Stan the Drum Man returns to Helper Junior High
Stan the Drum Man, aka. Stan Secrest from New York, returned this fall for a second year to Helper Junior High School for the annual drum making event. Sponsored by the Utah Division of Arts and Museums, and under the direction of art teacher Cathy Wilson, 44 students, 12 community members, six teachers and spouses, and returning alumni drummers, made a large circle in the gymnasium and played intriguing sounds with their personally designed and decorated drums. The circle involved the eighth and ninth grade art students, and band members of all grades. Smiles, laughs, and energetic yet soulful sounds filled the room. Along with Wilson dancing and leading the group in music, Helper's principal Tom Montoya danced to the beat as well. The school and community members are looking forward to his return next year.
