What is Cyber Monday?
Black Friday might be the day for store deals, but with Internet sales slowing taking a greater percentage of brick and mortar store sales, a new phenomenon called cyber Monday is becoming increasingly important. Over the last few year starting in 2004, sales over the Internet on Cyber Monday have typically come close to doubling from year to year, according to the National Retail Foundation, but what are online retailers offering this year as far as deals go?
Both Walmart.com and Amazon.com are offering week long deals but, because some will likely only be available on Monday, it will pay to keep an eye on the sites for what comes up.
Cyber Monday, a term coined by Shop.org in 2005, began after retailers noticed a trend of people shopping online on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Today, Cyber Monday is viewed as the online equivalent to Black Friday: the ceremonial kickoff to the online holiday shopping season when shoppers flood websites expecting robust promotions and many retailers highlight some of their most compelling online holiday offers, according to a Shop.org article.
