With the Thanksgiving holiday nearly here, gas prices are what is on the mind of many drivers.

The reason? Thanksgiving is one of the highest travel holidays of any that take place each year. National statistics say that the average driver who goes somewhere other than staying at home for the holiday will put 800 miles on their vehicle. For most this is at least two gas tanks full of fuel.

This past week the average retail gasoline price in Utah has fallen 1.1 cents per gallon averaging $2.77 per gallon.

This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.87 per gallon, according to gasoline price website

Including the change in gas prices in Utah during the past week, prices at the end of last week were 16.2 cents per gallon higher than the same time one year ago and are 3.1 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

The national average has increased 4.1 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 22.9 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago. is operated by GasBuddy. The company operates,, and over 225 other local gasoline price-tracking websites that follow prices at over 125,000 gasoline stations in the United States and Canada. GasBuddy also uses Facebook ( Twitter (, and phone apps to keep motorists ahead of changing gasoline prices.

What prices will do between Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays, is anyones guess, but traditionally they stay about the same, verses the summer holidays when prices usually increase.
