Minor injuries in car-tree mishap

A pickup truck sits crumpled against the cottonwood tree it collided with as rescue workers prepare to load the driver into a waiting ambulance on Wood Hill Road in Carbonville Thursday morning. The driver, 50-year-old Thomas Hammond of Helper suffered minor injuries. The Sheriff's Department accident report indicates that Hammond was northbound when he apparently drifted onto the shoulder of the narrow road and overcorrected, swerved left and left the road. Speed was apparently not a factor. The truck damaged about ten feet of chain-link fence, a lawn mower and a child's toy dump truck. Hammond was cited for improper lane travel.
