Every season the dream is to be in the championship game on Halloween for Carbon volleyball. It did not happen this season as the team fell a little short in an epic first round battle against North Sanpete. But the Dinos fought their way through the consolation bracket to take sixth. It might not have been the championship, but for the Lady Dinos, who stumbled a bit at the end of the season, it was still sweet.

Carbon opened with a duel with North Sanpete at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. They lost the first two sets 30-28 and 27-25 before taking the third one 27-25 to stay alive. The final set was close as well, but the Hawks won 25-22 to move on. For Carbon, the best they could do is fight for sixth.

Coach Bob Potts was pragmatic, "I thought we played well. We scored enough points to win, we just didn't finish it. We had hardly any hitting errors, they (North Sanpete) just got the great end of it."

Kacylia Ivory was optimistic before their next match as she also stated that Carbon had played well in their first match.

At 3:30 the team took on Bear River. Carbon seemed a bit out of sync in the first set as Bear River went ahead with a 25-18 win. The Lady Dinos were not going to let this year be a repeat of last year and buckled down and took the next three sets 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19 and now could stay to play another day.

With a renewed confidence, Amanda Freestone came off the court after the win and said, "It was hard, but we pushed through. We battled hard and came back for the win. It was an amazing win!"

On Saturday Carbon was up against Juab. After a tough first set that went to Carbon 25-23, it was pretty much the Lady Dinos match to take. They did, finishing things off 25-13 and 25-20. Now it was just waiting for the winner of the Emery/Park City match.

The final match came down to region rival Park City and the Dinos wasted no time taking down the Miners in three straight for a sweep into sixth. The scores in the final match were 25-17, 25-14 and 25-19.

Sara Potts finished with 17 kills in the match and 64 throughout the tournament. Freestone added 11 in the final match.

"Our first two sets against park City I just sat and enjoyed watching at the seniors took control of the game. It was fun," stated Coach Potts , "It was a great way for those girls to finish. Our seniors; Sara (Potts), Alexis (Oliver) and Kacylia (Ivory) gave it their all to put out a great effort and finish strong. But for a few plays in the the first match, who knows what might have happened. We fought hard the whole state tournament. Many of the scores in were close in our matches, but they always believed they could win."
