The Carbon cross country team headed to the state meet last weekend and were well represented, with the girls finishing in ninth place and the boys finishing in 11th.

Flu seemed to be hitting the team just as they were poised to have one of their best runs at state, but despite several boys and girls from the Dino squad feeling under the weather, they all gave what they had.

"Our strong solid five on on both sides were not so strong," explained Coach Allen. "We had kids sick on both sides, however, we still ran tough."

Individually for the girl's race, Regan Powell took 14th overall. Powell started in the top 20 and continued to move up. She beat her last year's time by nearly a minute with a 20:20. Rachel Goodrich was second for Carbon, finishing in 25th, in 21:04.The times of these two girls were what carried the Lady Dinos to a 9th place team finish overall.

Kristen Jewkes came in third for Carbon in a time of 22:55. Karissa Nelson, Diana Olsen and Sierra Williams wrapped up the runners for Carbon girls team for the day.

Coach Telisse Allen felt like all the girl's really accomplished a lot to earn their shot at state, but she wanted to give credit to the two top finishers for the Lady Dinos, Powell and Goodrich, who's excellent times helped keep the team in the top ten.

For the boys squad Allen added that it was the Dino third and fourth runners that really struggled at the meet. The top finishers for Carbon were Garrett Marsing in 22nd with a time of 17:24, Cody Hunt finished 34th in 17:43. Justin Hepworth was third for Carbon in a time of 18:29. Both Hunt and Hepworth beat their last year's times. Austin Pullan ended in fourth for Carbon and Stefan Larsen stepped up into fifth scorer for Carbon. Kaleb Kulow and Carson Tatton displaced for us and Carson ran a new personal best for the state course.
