A 4-year-old Wellington boy was killed in a rollover at the top of Fairview Canyon on Saturday night.

Braxton Bird was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Bird was not restrained in his booster seat properly and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred in Emery County on State Road 264 at milepost five at 8:30 p.m. The location is approximately seven miles east of Fairview.

Five people were in the truck, all of Wellington, including three adults and two children. The other child, a two-year-old female, was also not properly restrained in her carseat, but stayed in the vehicle and suffered only minor injuries. She was transported to Sanpete Valley Hospital to be checked out, UHP reported.

The driver of the Ford Ranger pickup was traveling eastbound on the roadway when it came into a sharp curve on the roadway. The male driver was not able to stay in his lane and ran off the roadway at the end of the curve. The vehicle rolled down a steep embankment and came to rest on its side in a shallow part of Electric Lake.

The male driver and front female passenger were also ejected from the vehicle, with injuries ranging from a broken leg to head trauma. Both were taken by ambulance to Sanpete Valley Hospital for treatment. Another male passenger was restrained by a seat belt and suffered only minor injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be the main factor in the crash, according to UHP.

The crash is still under investigation and upon completion, will be referred to the Emery County Attorney's Office for screening of possible criminal charges.
