Jerry Anderson, Republican candidate for the District 69 seat in the Utah House of Representatives, has withdrawn and been disqualified from the race.

Incumbent Democrat Christine Watkins will be unopposed in the election.

The disqualification by the Secretary of State earlier this month only eased Anderson's difficult decision to withdraw anyway, he said Wednesday.

"We weren't getting the support we wanted, so we gave it up," he said of the campaign. The disqualification "eased a whole lot of pressure" on himself and his wife, he added.

The disqualification was caused by missing the filing of campaign finance disclosures by 15 minutes, Anderson said. "Not that I had anything to report," he concluded.

Anderson, who teaches biology and botany at Utah State University/College of Eastern Utah, resides in Price.
