"I believe that God sent us grandparents

As our legacy from above,

To share the moments of our life

As extra measures of his love."

HUNTINGTON - LaRay Chidester, age 74, passed away in the comfort of her home as she was re-united with the love of her life on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010. She was born on Oct. 6, 1935 in Huntington to her parents Eldred (Nig) and Fern Johnson. She was raised primarily in Huntington with her two brothers and two sisters.

On Oct. 11, 1953 Grandma Ray married her "2nd Grade Sweetheart" Ted Chidester in Ely, Nev. Grandpa and Grandma showed us all the loving example of what marriage should be in each and every day of their 56 years of marriage.

Grandma Ray resided in several states including Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming and California where she was a homemaker and loving mother to her five children. She also worked at K-mart in Nevada where she retired several years ago.

Grandma's favorite hobby in her earlier years was working with ceramics. All of us grandkids were so excited to get our annual Christmas ornaments Grandma had made for us out of ceramics when we were young. Grandma also loved to craft and spend time with her family. She loved getting dressed up and putting on her many pieces of jewelry she had collected over the years.

Grandma is survived by her children Betty Jo and husband John Pennington, Ted and wife Chris Chidester, Teri and husband Jeff Grange, Tammie and husband Kyle Christiansen, and Debbie Staley, her 16 grandchildren, 26 great-children, one sister, two brothers and of course Buffy.

Grandma is welcomed in heaven by her loving husband, her parents, one sister and one grandson.

A visitation will be held at the Heritage Funeral Home, 620 N. Main Street, Huntington on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at 1 p.m. with a viewing from 11:00-12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Huntington City Cemetery under the trusted care of Heritage Funeral Home.
