With the winning streak now at three, Carbon volleyball swept the defending 3A State Champs in three straight games in North Sanpete territory. Final scores of the match were 25-23, 25-23 and 25-16.

This was always a tough rivalry holding over from when they were in the same region and the crowds were very large.

Set one started off even as the Lady Hawks held a 6-5 lead. The Dinos fought right back and surged ahead 10-8 and then stayed ahead by three to four points. North Sanpete made a late run but Carbon held on for the two point win. Sara Potts set the tone with seven kills and the team had five service aces.

The Dino team got down early 6-10 in set two and was unable to hold serve. The Lady Hawks held a 21-19 lead late in the set when senior Alexis Oliver stepped up to serve. The Dinos took the lead 22-21. Three more side out points and Carbon went up 2-0 in the match. Junior Rachel Scoggins came to life with four kills in the set.

The final set stayed even with Carbon holding a slight lead at 12-11. North Sanpete called time out to regroup as the Dinos powered ahead 17-12 and didn't look back.

There was plenty of offense as outside hitters Sara Potts pounded down 16 kills. Rachel Scoggins ended with six. Amanda Freestone and Kayleigh Potts had five kills each. Alexis Oliver dished out 26 set assists. Team passing off the server was sharp, giving Alexis plenty of options in running the offense. The team served up nine aces. Kacylia Ivory anchored the defense again with 22 digs and only one serve receive error out of 20 attempts.

Region play starts next week on the road as the Carbon travels to Park City.

"Believing in yourself is a big factor in winning and the volleyball team needs support from everyone and for everyone to believe in them as they are making the plays to get the wins," said coach Bob Potts after the match, "If we continue to improve every match the fans will have plenty to cheer about as region play should prove to be successful."
