The Carbon Cross Country team is off and running, literally. They have had three meets and are seeing some good results.

On Aug. 21 at Tooele the Carbon boys took second while the girls team grabbed third.

On Aug. 26 the team headed to the American Leadership Academy and the Dino girls and boys both took top honors.

Finally over the weekend Carbon participated in the Grass Relay in American Fork. There was no team scoring, but several of the Carbon team had some great finishes.

The Tooele meet was the first meet of the season and Coach Telisse Allen felt like it went well. Garrett Marsing and Cody Hunt led the boys. Regan Powell and Sierra Williams were the fastest for the Carbon girls.

Allen summed up the effort.

"The team all ran well. Coaches heart awards went to Kayla Petersen and Brenden Hepworth," she said.

ALA was on Wednesday and Carbon girls finished first through fifth. It was Regan Powell, Diana Olsen, Sierra Williams, Rachel Goodrich, and Kayla Petersen crossing the line in order.

"Union and ALA were the only ones there so there was not a lot of competition, but still it was a very hard thing to do. No one broke up our top five runners," Allen stated.

The Dino boys took first, holding off region teams Union and ALA. Carbon's top five were Garrett Marsing, Cody Hunt, Kaleb Kulow, Austin Pullan, and Justin Hepworth.

On Saturday the American Fork Grass relays was probably the toughest competition Carbon will see this year. Most of the schools in central and northern Utah were there competing. Garrett Marsing ran the freshman/sophomore race and finished 12th out of 353 athletes. Regan Powell ran the junior/senior girls race finishing 16th out of 249 athletes. Powell was third in 3A classification.

Cody Hunt also had a great race in the junior/senior division. He ended up in 20th place with over 300 entries.

Next up for the squad is a meet against Union on Sept. 3. This competition replaces the Utah Pre-State meet that was canceled.

They will also travel to Murray for an Invitational on Sept. 10.
