After sweeping their region foes last season, the Dinos were expecting to go deep into the state tournament. Instead Grantsville knocked them out of contention in the the first round. It wasn't until after the match when the Dinos had secured their first victory of this season, that they realized that and felt the sweet taste of revenge. Carbon swept Grantsville on Thursday 25-19, 25-18 and 25-16 for the win.

"What a turnaround from last Tuesday, it started with the first set of the sophomore match as that team came out focused and determined. They accomplished something few teams ever do. They had a great hitting set one with five kills out 14 attempts with no errors," remarked Coach Bob Potts after the match, "The rest of teams feed off of this and you could see a new determination in their eyes."

It was a great team effort as everyone on the team contributed to the win in some way or another. Senior outside hitter Sara Potts led the team with 15 kills, two service aces, 13 digs and a block assist. Junior middle hitter Amanda Freestone also had a big game with nine kills and a pair of service aces. Junior outside hitter Rachel Scoggins posted six kills.

Coach Potts felt like the big offensive performance was orchestrated with senior setter Alexis Oliver. Oliver got the ball to right people at the right time with 22 assists. She also had two service aces.

Junior opposite hitter BreAnna Hurdsman kept the Grantsville team from running any offense with 14 serve attempts and two aces. The defense was anchored by senior Kacylia Ivory with 13 digs.

"Grantsville would not serve to her as her passing off serve-receive was excellent." added Coach Potts, "With Emery coming to town on Tuesday it will be a great opportunity to get .500 and build more confidence leading to the start of region play."

The Spartans and the Dinos square off at 6:30 p.m. for varsity action in the Dino gym on Tuesday.
