Carbon County residents joined thousands of people from across the state in the Take Back Utah rally in Salt Lake City on Saturday. They drove their ATVs, UTVs and trucks up State Street to the State Capitol in a procession that went on for miles.
They wanted to demonstrate that masses of people fear being denied access to Utah's scenic backcountry by wilderness and roadless designations on federal land. Carbon County Commissioner John Jones addressed the crowd, telling them that ranchers, miners, gas drillers and recreationists need to band together and make their positions known in the ongoing debate. Jones said public lands are spacious enough to support multiple use.
