CHS power outed by Rabbits
Last Thursday the Carbon High Lady Dino volleyball team headed across the state for their first preseason meet of the year. It was certainly an adventure. After some delays and a venue change,Delta defeated Carbon in three sets 25-10, 25-14, 25-14.
"I believe the overall play and feeling of the team's first preseason match was nervousness" remarked Coach Bob Potts after the match.
Delta has one of the nicest arenas in the state but an untimely power failure during the JV second set forced the Delta coaches and administration to find an alternate site with power so play could go on. The JV match was canceled. Only the varsity match was played at the new site. The smaller gym was packed and noisy with a lower ceiling. Another power outage delay only complicated the night.
The Rabbits took advantage of the turmoil and combined excellent court play to make it difficult for the young, untested Dino team to be at their best performance.
Sara Potts led the CHS team with eight kills, 12 set assists, and nine defensive digs. Amanda Freestone contributed to the offense with four kills. Kacylia Ivory played solid defense with nine digs with only one receiving error as she fielded 17 serves from the home team. Alexis Oliver dished out 13 assists and also played solid defense. Kayleigh Potts was a force at the net with two solo blocks and four block assists.
The next match the Lady Dinos will play in will be on Tuesday at home against Richfield. The sophomores start at 4 p.m. and the JV and freshman 5:15 p.m. Varsity action opens at 6:30 p.m.
