Rantings and Ravings

Sun Advocate reporter

I have stared at this page for hours. Last night I even wrote a paragraph and then deleted it this morning. I stared again and then went for a run.

I came back and stared again for a while. I tried to pull up some information on a few issues like school funding and illegal immigration, but found very little that was useful to me.

The stats I found on immigration were all over the place and skewed by whatever side was posting them. I could have taken just what I wanted to prove the point I thought I might want to make, but seeing the other numbers as well left me troubled about what the truth really is.

I found several sources that seem to say illegal immigration is actually down from where it was five years ago. But on other links I read that it is a bigger problem than ever, but they didn't have any numbers for me to look at. So without good data on both sides I decided to write on something else.

I got watching a rerun of America's Got Talent. How do you rerun a show that only aired two days ago and is filmed live? At least the yodeling grandma with the fuchsia hair and lipstick was sent home. I decided to finish this tomorrow.

So it is tomorrow and school is about to start. We also all just got our tax notices.

I could not find the information I was looking for about school funding. I did find many other pots of money that are going to the schools, but it seemed like I needed a whole lot more background to interpret them in a meaningful way. I guess I could have just made up my own interpretation and written something that peaked people's interest. But then I would have just added to the confusion that is already out there about school funding.

I played three games of Mah Jong and then went downstairs to paint for a while. I listened to the local radio station and heard a blurb on the expiration of the tax cuts for the rich.

Hmm, maybe that is something to write about.

So I washed the paint off my hands, fired the computer back up and stared at this empty document again. I wrote and deleted and wrote and deleted. Time for some research so I know what I am writing about.

I typed in tax cuts for the rich. My computer asked if I meant tax cuts for the rich. I hate when my computer thinks it knows everything. I did mean that and it gave me many articles and a link for a book on getting out of paying taxes, ever.

I browsed and read several different sides of the issue and was more confused than when I started. I do know that about 1 percent of the rich control 34 percent of the money in our country. I read that today. I hope its true, because I just stated it as a fact.

I am part of the bottom 80 percent and it said we own only 17 percent of the money. If those 1 percent don't want their tax cut to go away, couldn't they take a little and create some of those jobs we are all needing. I think they might not miss a billion or so to start a factory or pay their employees a bit more. But I did read something today that said if we taxed that group any more than they are, the whole economy will shut down.

I sure don't want to espouse an idea that will destroy our already fragile economy, so I guess I won't write on that either.

I closed the screen again and went to check on my neighbor who had had some surgery on her eye. It didn't go well and she was heading back over the mountain to get it looked at for a third time in a week.

I came home and chased a fly around for twenty minutes with the fly swatter. I think it was just one, but then all flies look the same to me.

So here I sit with nothing meaningful on this page. OMG here comes the ice cream truck! I will try again some other day.
