At the end of a season is the best time to recruit a new coach for the next season if a team is in need. Eastern Utah's volleyball coach Brent Martindale did not make his decision to leave until after the prime hunting deadline was passed. So the college decided to hire assistant coach Grant Barraclough as the interium head coach and post the position at the end of the coming season.

Barraclough has been the assistant volleyball coach off and on for a period of eight years under Martindale. He is glad to fill the position for this season, but he is looking ahead to obtaining his bachelors in nursing from the Western Governors On-line College next year. The move into the top spot for a season will help him a lot financially toward that goal. He knows the program well and is eager for the season to get underway.

Eventually, Barraclough wants to finish a masters program in nursing as well. He spent several seasons commuting to LDS Hospital on weekends to get his practicum in. He now works at Castleview Hospital full time in the operating room. His supervisors and co-workers at Castleview are going to help him juggle his schedule to fit both jobs in. They have even offered to carry his pager when he is on call on game days at home.

A Utah native, Barraclough grew up in Bountiful and attended Woods Cross High. He played club volleyball before graduating in 1994. He also attended the University of Utah for a year and played club ball there as well. He then headed off to the big apple for his LDS mission. When he returned from New York City he came to Price to visit a friend and fell in love with the community. Two days later he had his belongings packed up and made the move.

His wife Crystal is from the area and they have two young children His oldest, Jaten, is three years old, followed by nine month old Preston
