After reading the letter to the editor by Mr. Warren (Letters to the Editor, Must Defend Free Speech, June 29, 2010, Sun Advocate), I was enticed to read what President Obama had to say about the media and free speech. I read the entire speech and the only statements about the media I found in it was this:

"Bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don't rank all that high on the truth meter. With iPods and iPads; Xboxes and PlayStations; information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment. All of this is not only putting new pressures on you; it is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy."

Now, what that sounded like to me was the truth (to any intelligent thinking individual). The majority of the remainder of the speech was about the value of education and open-mindedness and to correctly quote our president," America wouldn't work if its citizens were uninformed, if its citizens were apathetic, if its citizens checked out, and left democracy to those who didn't have their best interests at heart. It could only work if each of us stayed informed and engaged; if we held our government accountable; if we fulfilled the obligations of citizenship."

So my response to your letter Mr. Warren is this. Is President Obama not entitled to that same freedom of speech you claim is being lost?

In this great country of ours you are entitled to use such terms as "lap puppies, demonize, internet Czar, assault, threatening, etc---in reference to the President. What a shame that you do have those rights, because those words spew trash and hatred and are so un-American. Turn off your TV and start thinking for yourself.

You don't have to agree with the President on any issue, but have some respect for yourself as a citizen of this country.
