Helper's American Legion baseball team is still doing well, winning their last two region games.

"Last Wednesday we traveled to Salt Lake City to play West," said Coach Jeff Cisneros. "West was two games behind us in the league standings and has been playing very well as of late. Colter Moore started on the mound and pitched six very solid innings. We opened the game by scoring seven runs in the top the first inning."

It went on. A few walks by the West pitcher and a double by Seth Tryon got the scoring started. West scored both of their runs in the second inning and Helper managed to push three more runs across throughout the game. The win was a good win against a good team and put Helper at 9-0 in the league.

"Kash Jewkes and Seth Tryon both had a couple hits and Colter Moore bounced back from a tough last outing on the mound with a good pitching performance and picked up the win," stated Cisneros.

Then there came the game against Taylorsville on Tuesday night.

"Tuesday night we played Taylorsville U17," said the coach. "This is a good team and was only one game behind us when the night started. They jumped on us for a couple of quick runs to start the game. Bradon Bolotas started on mound and pitched the entire game. He did a great job and really settled down in the middle innings and kept Taylorsville guessing. Our bats were slow to start but picked up in the third inning as we scored 3 runs to take a 3-2 lead."

A couple of walks and a single by Hayden Basinger and Jewkes did the damage for Helper however. Helper scored three more runs in the fifth inning; a single by Jaren McCourt and by Basinger again were the big hits. A sacrifice bunt that turned into a two base error by Dylan Vogrinec was also key to pushing across the final three runs.

"This was a great win for us and it completed the sweep of the two Taylorsville teams this year," said Cisneros. "We beat the older team 14-5 earlier and now a 6-3 win over the young team. This is the first time in my coaching tenure that we have beat both teams in the regular season in the same year. Although our bats were a little slow we found a way to beat a good team and maintain what is now a two game lead over everyone in the league."

Helper's record now stands at 11-0 with five league games left. They play at home at 7 pm Friday night against Riverton.
