Apples4Teachers recently awarded Jody Carter from Huntington as teacher of the year.

Carter, nominated in February for teacher of the month, was chosen for the yearly award and received an Apple computer from provided by Shane Baggs, owner of BEH communications, who is one of the sponsors.

The KUSA Apples4Teachers campaign highlights the efforts of teachers in Carbon and Emery County. Many teachers go beyond the call of educating their students. Once each month, a local teacher was chosen as a teacher of the month, receiving a plaque and a luncheon provided by Ty's Table in Price. At the end of the school year, one of the monthly winners was chosen as the "Apple Teacher of the year", and received an Apple laptop computer.

Nominations were sent in by students, facility and community members. Carter, a fourth grade teacher for the past 10 years and is also vice principal at Huntington Elementary, was praised for her accomplishments as a teacher. Some of the accolades of her peers is that she gets involved and participates in every function, she is respectful, volunteers her time, and she takes time to care about her students and their lives.

Future nominations for 2011 will be accepted at apples4teachers2011@gmail.com.
