Crews keeping watch after fire
The Cold Springs prescribed burn on the Tavaputs Plateau is over. Now local crews are keeping watch over the embers to make sure there are no unexpected flareups.
"The dead and down timber was completely consumed," said Jason Curry, spokesman for the state Division of Fire, Forestry and Public Lands. He added that landowners are happy with the firebreaks created. This means that when a wildfire does break out, it will be more easily controlled.
The fire also removed intrusive subalpine fir trees so that aspen can propagate in years to come, improving habitat for deer and elk.
