Babe Ruth League hosts Carbon Classic
By TERRY WILLIS Sun Advocate sports reporter
The Carbon Babe Ruth League took a break in their regular season play to host the first annual Carbon Classic Tournament. There were seven teams from Carbon County and four teams from Emery County that participated in the three day event. Joey's Paint and Body beat Tram 18-8 for the title.
In the end the championship game came down to Tram against Joey's Paint and Body. Tram used their best pitchers to make it to the championship game. The pitchers at the Babe Ruth level can only throw four innings in a 48-hour period and the coach for Tram decided that he would rather get into the playoffs and take his chances with his other pitchers than have his team sitting in the bleachers watching. The game stayed close until the final innings and then Joey's pulled away for the win.
Derrick Young from Joey's hit a pair of homers in route to the win and had a third shot caught at the fence, robbing him of a third home run on the night.
