Dugout Canyon Mine may be temporarily shut down by a "hot spot" in a coal seam, but miners aren't out of work. They are just getting a chance to work in broad daylight for a change. These miners are cleaning up the roadside of Ninemile Canyon Road Monday morning.
"I think it's commendable. Some other company might have laid us off by now," commented one miner who asked not to be identified. It is a good highway to adopt. The road is not only the route to the mine, but also the entry to Carbon County's premier outdoor tourist attraction, Nine Mile Canyon. By mid-morning, miners had already filled one dumpster with trash. It takes only a few minutes to fill one of the big, hunter orange plastic garbage bags.
